I have painted since I was a senior in high school and won "Best of Show" for a small seascape oil painting in my first art exhibit. I have not really entered many shows since then, but am humbled that my Dad, a Lutheran minister, put me through college to get an art degree- although he was not too thrilled I wanted to be an artist. He always encouraged me but knew - correctly, I guess - that it would be a hard way to find work. I took many years of figure drawing and painting; but after graduation had to find jobs that would pay. Many of these jobs were so uninspiring and yucky they were comical. I am finally painting for a living and am so happy to be able to share my work with you.

Devine Paintings is a shop of impressionist and slightly realistic, sometimes small, but always edgy works of art.

I have been able to work and create art in many capacities including Graphic Designer,
Published Poster Artist, Freelance Artist and Illustrator and - my favorite by far - inner city High School Art Teacher-where I met a true ART teacher - Mr. D- who taught me all the things I never learned in college as he was a Chicago Art Institute Alum and the Mentor I had prayed for all my life! I am loving the chance to share my paintings with you!

I love art in all of its forms, I know that painting ABSTRACTS is very
freeing and improves my REPRESENTATIONAL and PORTRAIT work.

JOHN SINGER SARGENT- unreal and sigh-inducing portrait artist

VINCENT VAN GOGH-the epitome of an artist

ED DODT- Masterful art teacher, drawing master, Chicago Art Institute alum who taught me what I should have learned while earning a BFA in commercial art-but never did. Important things like COLOR THEORY-facial structure-perspective drawing - Painting through Observation.

ROMARE BEARDEN --Collage and Assemblage Master, color genius.

RICHARD DIEBENKORN - the Abstract Expressionist who was classically trained in drawing and painting BEFORE venturing into abstracts. You can really SEE the abstract painters who-with practice and instruction-learned to draw and paint with AUTHORITY and SKILL before abstracting their subject- there is no comparison.
